International congress participants in Cairo follow live operations at the Lüdenscheid specialist clinic
Sportklinik Hellersen is continuing its success story - both on the international medical stage and as one of the leading drivers of innovation in the German healthcare sector. Proof of this is the award from FOCUS Business with the "Leading Innovator 2026" seal.
Sportklinik Hellersen achieved top marks in four of the five categories assessed - strategy and innovation culture, products and services, business model and organization - and thus clearly sets itself apart from the average. With an almost perfect score - a total of 14 out of 15 possible points - the specialist clinic is one of the most innovative companies in Germany. Particularly noteworthy is the area of organizational innovation: Sportklinik Hellersen sets standards here.
One example of the high level of innovation is the recent participation in the 77th annual congress of the Egyptian Orthopaedic Association (EOA) in Cairo. The EOA congress brings together leading experts, doctors and young scientists from all over the world and is regarded as one of the most important orthopaedic meetings in the Middle East and Africa. At the express invitation of the congress organizers, the specialist clinic presented itself as an international partner - and for the first time in the history of the congress, live operations from a German clinic were broadcast to Cairo. In front of over 5,000 trade visitors, Sportklinik Hellersen demonstrated state-of-the-art orthopaedic medicine from Lüdenscheid.
Chief Dr. Stefan Schmidl kicked off the congress with a scientific workshop on modern endoprosthetics. He presented current developments at the Center for Artificial Joint Replacement at Sportklinik Hellersen and showed how innovative procedures, precision planning and new surgical technologies can sustainably improve patient care.
The highlight of the four-day specialist program were two live operations, which were transmitted directly from the operating theatres of Sportklinik Hellersen to Cairo: a robot-assisted knee joint operation with the VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution and a cruciate ligament operation. The clinic was one of the first facilities in North Rhine-Westphalia to establish robot-assisted procedures as an integral part of arthroplasty, thereby setting new standards. The combination of state-of-the-art technology and highly specialized surgical expertise enables implantations with maximum precision and individual adaptation - further proof of the pioneering role of Sportklinik Hellersen.The procedures were commented on and explained live in Cairo by the responsible Chief Physicians - Dr. Stefan Schmidl and Dr. Markus Leyh.
The delegation from Sportklinik Hellersen was personally welcomed in Cairo by the former Egyptian Minister of Health, Prof. Dr. Adel Adawy, who is the Congress Director together with Prof. Mohamed Elashhab, Secretary General of the EOA Congress and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Benha University. Both were impressed by the technical precision, the clear structuring of the procedures and the surgical professionalism of the entire team at Sportklinik Hellersen.Prof. Mohamed Elashhab praised the collaboration as "groundbreaking for international orthopaedic exchange" and presented the delegation with a certificate of honor from the Egyptian Orthopaedic Association as special recognition.
