Assistant Physician Mohammad Alshrouf presents groundbreaking analysis on the development of osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is increasingly becoming one of the most dominant widespread diseases in Germany. The chronic joint disease has a considerable impact on the quality of life of those affected. What is particularly alarming is that younger people are also increasingly affected - a trend that calls into question the previous perception of the disease as purely age-related. At the annual congress of the German Knee Society (DKG) in Wiesbaden - one of the most important scientific forums for modern knee surgery and research - Mohammad Alshrouf, Assistant Physician in the Department of Shoulder, Elbow and Knee Surgery and Traumatology at Sportklinik Hellersen, presented his current research findings.

Under the title "Osteoarthritis in Germany: Three decades of increasing disease burden and projections until 2041 - A call for transformation of knee health policy", Mohammad Alshrouf presented a comprehensive analysis based on epidemiological data sets from the past 30 years. His analysis shows that the incidence, prevalence and limitations caused by osteoarthritis have been steadily increasing since 1990. Forecasts indicate that this trend will continue until 2041. A significant increase in younger patients and men is particularly noticeable. In his presentation, Mohammad Alshrouf emphasized that the increase not only has medical but also economic implications. He appealed for prevention, early diagnosis and targeted interventions to be significantly strengthened in order to safeguard knee health in the long term.
The research results also underline the leading role of Sportklinik Hellersen in evidence-based orthopaedics and show how important scientific impulses from clinical practice are for the further development of modern care concepts. The lecture met with great interest from the nationwide specialist audience and was rated as one of the best contributions.
