Dr. Timm Steuber takes over as Chief Physician and focuses on value-based leadership and maximum patient safety
Dr. Timm Steuber is the new Chief of Anaesthesia at Sportklinik Hellersen. He joined the team at the specialist clinic for orthopaedics, trauma surgery, sports medicine and endoprosthetics on September 1, 2025. With over 20 years of experience in acute and emergency medicine, a clear vision for leadership and team culture as well as a high standard of patient safety, he wants to further develop the department. "For me, anesthesia stands for absolute safety, precision and reliability. Every patient should feel 100 percent safe with us," says Dr. Timm Steuber with a view to his new position.
Enthusiasm for acute medicine since 1999
Born in Sauerland, he discovered his passion for medicine in 1999 during his community service. "I fell in love with medicine back then, especially with the dynamics and diversity of acute medicine. I still feel this enthusiasm today, whether as an emergency doctor or now in my new role."
After completing his specialist training in anaesthesiology and additional training in emergency medicine, he worked for many years in maximum medical care, including at St. Marien Hospital in Lünen, where he spent seven years treating severely injured patients, emergencies and complex surgical cases. "There, I not only learned to work at the highest professional level, but also to remain calm in difficult situations and keep an eye on the essentials."
From the rescue helicopter to the role of chief physician
His original dream of helping people in life-threatening situations as an emergency doctor on the "Christoph" rescue helicopter shaped his career right from the start. The missions from the air and on the ground took him deep into emergency and anesthesiology and taught him the importance of precise action under extreme time pressure. He later put this knowledge into practice in the operating theater: As a Senior Consultant and later as Head of consultant at the Evangelical Hospital in Unna, he took on responsibility for large surgical teams and complex procedures. This taught him how crucial clear communication and team cohesion are for the success of an operation.
Before moving to Sportklinik Hellersen, Dr. Timm Steuber dedicated several years to developing managers in the healthcare sector as a coach, trainer and consultant. "I have seen how much good leadership changes the work in clinics. My aim is to lead teams in such a way that they perform and remain healthy and satisfied at the same time."
Leadership with clear values
For Dr. Timm Steuber, successful medicine begins with a clear attitude. "My values are clarity, honesty, motivation and safety for patients," explains the Chief. One of his key concerns is to strengthen the self-confidence of the anaesthesia team. "Anesthesia is a decisive factor in ensuring that a patient comes through an operation safely. We bear this responsibility with the utmost professionalism. I want my team to recognize their strength and go home with the awareness that they have made an important contribution."
He also believes in a culture that combines appreciation and personal responsibility. "We want to stand for the highest quality in anaesthesia, always work attentively and critically and always pursue the goal of achieving the best for our patients." He is supported in this by Head of consultant Abdulhamid Akil, who is helping to shape the further development of the department with his great commitment and experience.
